The Miley Cyrus, Robin Thicke display at the Video Music Awards on Sunday has gotten the stamp of approval from the event’s most esteemed winner that night, Justin Timberlake.
“Listen, man, you know, it’s the VMAs. What did you guys expect?” Timberlake, 32, said in a radio interview with New York’s Fresh 102.7 on Tuesday.
“I like Miley. I like her a lot. I think, you know, she’s young. She’s letting everybody know that she’s growing up.”
The “Suit & Tie” singer owned the night with his 15-minute solo performance and short but sweet *NSYNC reunion — but Cyrus’s raunchy act eclipsed everything else in terms of shock value.
“I just think it’s the VMAs. It’s not like she did it at the Grammys,” he said. “Let her do her thing, you know?”
Timberlake pointed out that the VMAs has long been the awards show for pushing the envelope in terms of sexually charged or shocking moments — including the infamous Britney Spears, Madonna and Christina Aguilera kiss in 2003, and Taylor Swift getting “Kanye’d” with an interruption in 2009.”This is not an uncommon thing,” he said of Cyrus’s rump-shaking display. “I actually thought all the bears were really cool.”
